Greetings Faithful Readers…
This morning, I met with the Campus and Worship Pastors from all seven campuses at 6AM for a book study. During the discussion I made this comment: “Sometimes leaders don’t push their teams hard in the areas where they (the leaders) struggle.” In other words…if the leader doesn’t like to do it…he/she won’t hold their team too accountable for doing it. If the leader doesn’t like waking up early to work out…he/she is lenient on the team for the same thing. If a leader doesn’t see the importance of diversity, he/she appreciates the concept but doesn’t actively demand it from the team.
Now be careful. The first tendency is to think that it makes sense. Sure, if the leader doesn’t do it…why should they expect the team to do it? But look at it from a slightly different angle. Where is the flaw here?
The problem is the leader. If you are leading a group of people, it is critical to know all of the values of the organization, internalize them, live them out, and expect it from those on your team. The values are not like a buffet…a little of this…a helping of that…but not those…I don’t like those… It’s taking a full plate and eating the veggies because you know they are good for you…and that others are watching to see if you skip the carrots and go for the cheesecake.
I can’t tell my daughter to eat healthier between bites of my Big Mac.
It’s a slippery slope. When you start to put your organization’s values on a gradient…evaluating what they stand for against what you agree with…those under you will suffer. They will be challenged with supporting you or the company. They will see your dissension as an opportunity for personal behavioral justification. Make the effort to fully understand what your organization’s heartbeat is…what they stand for. If you can fully get on board…lead. If you can’t…stand clear and let someone else lead. You (and those directly influenced by you) will be better for it.

Greetings Faithful Readers,
As many of you know, I’ve had a pretty nasty cold recently and am just now starting to feel well enough post here on the blog (if you don’t believe me…check out the last video post…I sound like I swallowed rock salt).
Anyway, the iPhone 3.0 software was introduced on Tuesday and I’ve spent a good bit of time digesting what was shared. Here’s my take on some of the key features:
Cut and Paste – I can’t get too excited about a feature that should have been on the phone when I bought it… but it’s great to see the implementation and execution of such a mundane feature. I do like that I can cut photos out and paste them into emails…
MMS – Finally I can text photos to friends when I take them. In addition, I can send contacts, audio files, and even locations to someone via texting….very cool! Again, something long overdue…but very welcome to my phone.
Voice Memos – I’m already doing this via 3rd party app…but the Apple one looks great! I can send voice memos to people (or even back to myself) via email or texting (MMS).
Spotlight – System-wide search…. all of my search results…. across many applications…on one screen!
Note Sync - Yipee! I can finally send my meeting notes to my Mac. Other 3rd party apps claim to do this well, but I haven’t found a good one yet….
…and so many more… Can’t wait ’till Summer when it’s released! Did you watch the preview? What are your thoughts on what’s coming?

Greetings Faithful Readers,
It’s Wednesday…one of my favorite days of the week. Not only is it halfway to another amazing weekend on the Internet Campus, it is Online Student Ministry night! It really is one of the highlights of my week. Why?
1) The people I get to do it with… Pastor Scot and his amazing ability to lead and inspire… Patty (AKA Sassy Patty) who rolls with the teasing and brings so much to the table… Jamie (AKA The Hobbit) who in just a couple of sentences conveys huge spiritual truths in a relevant way… Jake (AKA Jake) who handles the technical side like a seasoned pro…but allows the world to see the real him… Brian R and crew who week after week keep the young people connected, engaged, and ready to listen and learn in the chat rooms.
2) This team is dedicated to showing young people the relevancy of the Living God. I have done ministry for over 20 years…and I haven’t seen many teams with their intensity and diligence.
3) No ego. I am not serving with a bunch of people who think of themselves first. Spend five minutes in the studio…you’ll see a bunch of humble servants trying to out-serve each other. Very inspiring.
4) Creativity through the roof. Everything from “Smash or Trash” to eating PB and J crackers off dirty hair….whatever it takes to convey the Message
God is all over this team. I am so honored to provide a place for these talented and gifted leaders to connect with young people all over the globe. If you’ve never experienced student ministry online…I invite you to. I guarantee you will walk away entertained and informed…but even more important than that…closer to Christ. I am inspired by this team’s heart and dedication to making a Kingdom difference.

Greetings Faithful Readers…
I avoided the hype for the backwards bath robe…but I am curiously drawn to the power of a towel that absorbs this much moisture and doesn’t drip. This would be great for my aquarium clean up…
Anybody have one of these and would like to testify?

PS: I can’t shake it…the guy in the photo above reminds me of Jake from our Online Student Ministry (sorry Jake)…
Greetings Faithful Readers,
As promised, here is Chapter 2 in the Internet Campus book study of Traveling Light by Max Lucado. Enjoy!
Today’s chapter: The Burden of a Lesser God
See you Thursday!

Greetings Faithful Readers…
Last Tuesday night, we had a visit from none other than Pastor Troy and his wife, Stephanie! Some of the Internet Campus leaders got the chance to ask questions, learn some history, and catch some great vision from our lead Pastor himself! Afterward, we got the chance to chat as a team about the future of the FRC Internet Campus and pray together…
A great night for the I/C….
See you online! (www.frclive.tv)
